Phaleria macrocarpa is a plant species native to Indonesia. The applications of this plant in medical sector have already been published including the anti-cancer activites, anti-histamines, anti-oxidatives, etc. Almost all of the plants parts (barks, leaves, fruit flesh and fruit peels) have been known to have useful substances. The attempts to multiply this plants have been done to provide a sufficient amount as the source of herbal medicines in medical sector, also for avoiding this plant from extinction. To date, many of the studies about Phaleria macrocarpa tissue culture are only focusing on callus formation and indirect organogenesis. It has been no report about the propagation by using direct organogenesis method, especially by formation of adventitious shoots. These preliminary studies applied various approaches to reveal the most effective method to grow adventitious shoot directly from Phaleria macrocarpa leaves, without undergoing callus formation. The effects of TDZ, BAP dan Kinetin in concentration of (0.5-5) ppm were investigated. Also, combinations of 2,4-D and Kinetin, various combinations of cytokinins (2 ppm) and auxins (0.5 ppm), and various combinations of auxins (0.1 ppm) and BAP (3.5 ppm) were executed. However, there was no treatment that successfully grow an adventitious shoot.
