Abstract
With the enactment of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 27 Year 2007 concerning the management of coastal areas and small islands, the scope of coastal areas has got a strict rule. The existence of small islands and surrounding waters are a unity as a resource and environment base that can be utilized by the society. The society is made of the traditional and local society. In the case referred to, the existence of coastal areas and the characteristics are components of the strength and resilience of the United Republic of Indonesia. What and how the components of strength and resilience of NKRI are represented in a certain national strategic area label in terms of challenge and problems as the strategic interest of Indonesian defense. The following explanation can be an option to answer the question.
