Abstract
The quality of irregular part model constructed by digitizing process using laser scanning depends on circumferential pitch. height direction pitch. and surface to scan. In obtaining the most similar model of irregular part, circumferential pitch and height direction pitch must he set as low as possible and the number of surface must be set as high as possible. How ever it will increase the required rime to perform digitizing process. This paper describe optimization of reverse engineering process. In particularly digitizing process for a simple and complex irregular part modeling using response surface methodology Based on the experiment results. the quality of simple part model is influenced only by surface to .scan. The optimum quality of part model is achieved by using height direction pitch equal to 1.6 mm. weight direction pitch 0.4 mm and 4 surfaces to scan. The optimum quality of part model has the value of texture is 1.251-1 and the required time is 5.8435 minutes. In addition. the quality of complex part model is influenced by height direction pitch, width direction pitch surface to scan. The optimum quality of complex part model is achieved by using height direction pitch equal to 1.8 mm. weight direction pitch 0.4 mm. and 4 surfaces to scan. The optimum quality of complex part model has the value of texture is 2.5225 and the required time is 22.92-13 minutes.
