Abstract

The product availability can be guaranteed with managing the material or product flow, started from supplier, manufacturer, distributor, until retailer. Coordination among manufacturer, distributors and retailers is needed for distributing their product included transporting the product from an echelon to its successive echelons. Their transportation policy will affect their production and replenishment policies so the inventory policy (production and replenishment policies) and transportation policy have to be integrated. This paper developed the integrated inventory and transportation policies for 4-echelon supply chain systems that consist of a manufacturer using a continuous production process, a distribution center, distributors and retailers. In addition, this model also consider customer’s demand at all retailer depend on time and are not identical. Products are transferred directly from one echelon to its successive echelons. The purpose of this paper is to determine production policy at the manufacturer, replenishment policies at the distribution center, distributors and retailers, and transportation policies at the manufacturer, distribution center and distributors in order to minimize annually total system cost. The annually total system cost consists of the annually total costs at the manufacturer, distribution centers, distributors and retailers. In developing this model, three approaches are used, i.e.: coordinated policy, echelon inventory concept, and single cycle time policy. Due to the model is classified as a mixed integer non-linear programming, the solution can be found out using branch and bound method.
