Abstract
Surabaya is a densely populated city because it is a business and industrial center with an increasing demand for transportation. Currently the use of private vehicles is more than public transportation. However, in the city of Surabaya, there is a City Bus service known as the Suroboyo Bus which has an environmentally friendly payment concept by exchanging used plastic bottles. This study applies an integrative model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), service satisfaction, and environmental concern, to test behavioral intentions using the public transportation system. Using 150 complete questionnaires collected from residents in Surabaya who have used public transportation Bus Suroboyo in the last 1 year. This study shows that perceived behavioral control, subjective norms, and descriptive norms influence behavioral intentions in using the Suroboyo Bus. Environmental concerns indirectly influence behavioral intentions through perceived behavioral control, and personal norms, thereby strengthening the TPB model. This shows the suitability of this TPB-based integrative model, while service satisfaction is also an important factor for changing from a private vehicle system to a public bus system, especially with the unique environmentally friendly payment system on the Suroboyo Bus. Theoretical and policy implications are discussed, along with suggestions for future research.
