Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a form of disorder in three areas of development that is impairment in ability to interact socially, impairment inability to communicate and stereotyped or repetitive behavior patterns. This disorder causes children to experience mind blindness so ASD child is easier to capture information visually than through auditory. Difficulty in understanding the auditory information causes difficulties to understand verbal teacher instructions. This may cause ASD children are not able to carry out their duties independently. Lack of self-reliant in completing tasks in ASD children is measured during long reaction times when assigned tasks, slow job completion times and often teachers help ASD children to repeat instruction in completing tasks. This study is a type of single case experimental design using three subjects as a 10 year old ASD participants with a severity level 1 category based on DSM V. Statistical analysis using Wilcoxon technique between pre-test and post-test values. Researchers use the Treatment and Education for Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children approach (TEACCH) or so-called structured teaching as an intervention in this case. Based on the results of TEACCH intervention it is known that overall (1). Reaction time when task is given and task completion time is faster in working, (2). The assistance provided by the teachers in completing is decreasing. In addition, the implementation of structured TEACCH in completing tasks makes ASD children more self-reliant in performing different additional tasks.
