Abstract
Mother daughter relationship and attachment begins when placenta is attached to the mother’s body. The placenta is formed in the uterus during pregnancy, creating a vital connection between the developing baby and the mother with an umbilical cord. Society believes that mother-daughter attachment is biologically destined. This belief is perpetuated with patriarchal gender norms, that a woman's role as a mother to her child is irreplaceable. When the mother is away, the impact will be very detrimental to the child. A mother who works in a different country will do anything to stay connected with her children at home. This study will explore qualitatively how the persisting gender norms about the irreplaceable mother’s love and role is impactful to the mother as well as to the children. The result of the study shows that this so-called transnational parenting has been enabled by the use of the Internet more specifically social media with the WhatsApp application. Women migrant workers believe that the role as a mother is their primary responsibility as a woman and no matter how far they separate from the children the role
