Abstract
Nowadays, membrane technology has been used extensively in chemical industries, especially in downstream processing. Because it can be running continously and need little energy consumption. Electrodialysis is a membrane processess which is using electrical energy to drive ions in feed solution to produce diluate (product with little ionic concentration) and concentrate (product with much ionic concentration). This paper presented bipolar membrane electrodialysis, which has been proven as an attractive technology to produce acid and base from their salt. Bipolar membrane has ability to disociate water so it can produce H+ ions and OH- ions, which is it’s special characteristic compare with monopolar membranes. The application of bipolar membrane is described, too.
