Abstract
This study explores the social phenomenon of #kaburajadulu, which reflects the growing interest among Indonesia's Generation Z to work abroad, particularly in the United States. Using a qualitative research approach, questionnaires were distributed to Indonesian migrant workers in the U.S. and to members of Generation Z in Indonesia. The findings indicate that economic factors—especially higher wages and broader career opportunities—are the main motivations for migration. The study also identifies challenges faced by Indonesian migrant workers, including language barriers, cultural adaptation, high living costs, and work visa regulations. Additionally, some Indonesian nationals have successfully established businesses in the U.S., particularly in the culinary sector, contributing to cultural diplomacy and the diaspora economy. Overall, this study confirms that economic motivations are the primary drivers of overseas migration among Generation Z, in line with modern migration and labor economic theories.
