Abstract
This study examines the influence of Asian popular culture trends, particularly from Korea and China, on the transformation of men’s fashion preferences in Indonesia. This phenomenon has become increasingly relevant as many local fashion startups face business challenges due to a mismatch between product aesthetics and market expectations (product-market mismatch). To address this issue, the study employs an applied qualitative approach by implementing Design Thinkingas the primary human-centered frameworkfor product development. Data were collected through a triangulation method, including in-depth interviews, market observations of Generation Z, and an extensive literature review. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Design Thinking stages, ranging from empathy and problem definition to ideation, prototyping, and iterative testing, successfully produced menswear designs inspired by East Asian aesthetics, such as oversized silhouettes and layering techniques, while remaining adaptable to Indonesia’s tropical climate. Product modifications through the use of breathable, sweat-resistant materials effectively addressed consumers’ pain points related to comfort and mobility inurban environments. This study concludes that integrating global fashion trends with local comfort requirements not only generates commercially validated product innovation but also contributes to enhancing the skills of local tailors, thereby strengthening the sustainabilityof the Creative Economyecosystem
