Abstract

Abstract —Cabbage gives the largest production contribution to total vegetable production in Indonesia (12,05%). Indonesia has the potential to become an exporter due to the ability to produce the finest quality cabbage at a relatively inexpensive price. Unfortunately, cabbage pests remain a challenge for the farmers because the excessive use of chemical pesticides will endanger the consumer’s health. This is also supported by the fact that cabbage often consumed in a raw form in Indonesia. From the previous study, Acinetobacter pittii 3.1 was proven to be pathogenic to Tenebrio molitor. This study aims to test the pathogenicity effect of Acinetobacter pittii 3.1 to cabbage’s common pest, Armyworm, Spodoptera litura F. This research used two types of methods, orally and parenterally, and three types of bacterial concentrations, 105, 106, and 107. The presence of the tested bacteria was also identified by sampling the hemolymph and fat body from the larvae’s body. The results showed that Acinetobacter pittii 3.1 is proven to be neither pathogen nor causing sub- lethal effects for S.litura. The results that are not in line with the previous studies are alleged because the type of interaction between host and microbe is a host-specific interaction. Order differences between A. pittii (Lepidoptera) and T. molitor (Coleoptera) cause different pathogenicity effects. Nevertheless, A. pittii still has the potential to be a bioinsecticide, but possibly with other hosts that are closely related to Tenebrio molitor.
