Abstract

Post-tuberculosis lung disease (PTLD) is a residual symptom after tuberculosis (TB) that occurs in tuberculosis (TB) patients who have undergone tuberculosis treatment. PTLD is characterized by persistent structural and functional disorders of the lungs affecting the airways, lung parenchyma, pleura, and blood vessels. By 2023, an estimated 49% of children with pulmonary TB will experience radiographic abnormalities or abnormal spirometry results. Each year, more than 80% of children are diagnosed with tuberculosis and begin treatment that will result in a cure, increasing TB survivorship and increasing the morbidity of PTLD. Given the longterm impact on children, as well as the similar clinical presentation as recurrent or relapsing TB, this narrative review aims to provide comprehensive insight into the clinical manifestations, diagnostic approaches, prognosis, and management of children with PTLD. The literature review was conducted by searching articles through the PubMed database. Exploratory literature indicates that measurement tools as diagnostic tools are difficult to use in older children, leading to neglect. A poorer prognosis may be due to the extent of lung damage that occurs during the active phase of the disease, and the individualized nature of PTLD management in children. Further research is needed to develop more specific, evidence-based treatment protocols
