Abstract

Abstract The accounting profession is facing very rapid changes due to technological disruption. This change is being examined from a psychological perspective, questioning whether these changes indeed bring more positive impacts in the form of opportunities to grow, develop, learn, and flourish, rather than as threats. Grounded in the framework of psychology, this study investigates whether psychological strengths such as a proactive personality, self-esteem, goal orientation, and occupational prestige can enhance career adaptability among Indonesian accountants. The study aims to understand how these strengths enable professionals to thrive amid digital transformation in the era of Society 5.0. Using a quantitative survey approach with 149 professional accountants, the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) PLS. The results show that proactive personality and goal orientation significantly predict career adaptability, both directly and indirectly through self-esteem. These findings extend the understanding of psychological theory by demonstrating that psychological strengths foster resilience, adaptability, and flourishing in professional contexts. Implications for organizations and accounting education are discussed to promote strength-based interventions and lifelong adaptability in digitalized work environments.
