Abstract

Gender-based violence is a crucial issue in Indonesian society. One of the structural barriers is the existence of unequal gender relations, resulted by a very paternalistic culture, inducing a tendency to position men as superior and women in a lower position. Moreover, this perception has been believed by some women, including Javanese women who are known to be very submissive. This will eventually lead to discrimination, domination, marginalization, exploitation and violence against women. The most prominent cases are in the private area are known as domestic violence, which has increased significantly in Covid-19 pandemic era. This study aims to provide an overview of the resilience of Javanese female who are victims of domestic violence by identifying the protective factors that shape this resilience. Qualitative research with a case study approach that is considered appropriate for the purpose of this study. This study involved 2 (two) research subjects obtained by purposive sampling, according to the inclusion criteria that have been set. The data analysis technique used in this research is thematic analysis by coding the results of interview transcripts that have been made verbatim. From this study, 6 (six) research findings were obtained which were divided into 2 (two) major categories and 4 (four) themes which were explained in more detail. The conclusion obtained from this study is that the protective factors that shape resilience of Javanese female victims of domestic violence in Covid-19 pandemic era are internal and external factors, including individual factors, partner factors, economic factors, and socio-cultural factors.
