Abstract

Unnatural posture of work impacts on the workers badly especially when it has to done for several hours. This research is done at PT. X, a home industry that produces dolls and pillows for the children. From the early observation at the drawing department and finishing department, it can be seen that there is no facility that can help the worker to do the job in comfort. For example they draw the patterns on the floor so that they have to bend over for 3-4 hours. This research has purpose to reduce the pain and increasing the comfort of the worker through designing work facilities based on the dimension of the workers. Two aspects of comparison wereused to evaluate the new facilities: production time and pain that is felt (known from Nordic Body Map questionnaires). New facilities were designed ergonomically;-those were drawing table and chair for rhe drawing department. working table and chair for finishing department. These Facilities can decrease the production time and the pain of the worker. At the drawing department, average production time is decreasing from 1747.6 secons to 1588.95 secons, total fatigue rate is decreasing from 62 to 17. At the finishing department, average production time is decreasing from 2 1970.12 seconds to 18 194.16 seconds, total fatique rate is decreasing from 81 to 21.
