The application is aimed to convert a distributed data or data with multiple variables, in XML format, into heatmap graphics on a computer display unit. The heatmap graphic lets the audience to better understand the content of a distributed data, with ease and appealing interface. Created using Adobe Flash CS4 and ActionScript 3.0, the application uses XML as the main data format for input and output. The application may also produced an output of heatmap graphics using PNG format. The main features of this application include reading/opening an XML input file, editing the XML input file, drawing the heatmap graphics, interacting with the heatmap graphics, printing the heatmap graphics, and exporting the heatmap graphics into PNG format. For the case study, a database containing film ratings is used. The application can also be used to convert other types of database, into heatmap graphics. However, the XML file used as the input file must follow the format and rules defined for the application. The generated Heatmap graphic has several interactive features such as: changing colors, pop-up window to help data value reading, searching, sorting, filtering data output, and some animations.
