Abstract
Podcast is already well known and widely used nowadays. It is invented by Adam Curry and Dave Winner in 2004 and popularized by Ben Hammersley in the same year. Podcast refers to series of audio –radio like program that can be downloaded from the internet in the form of MP3 and can be played anywhere, like on smartphone, desktop, laptop, smart televison. With the vast popularity of podcast, many researches tried to analyze the impact of it, especially to the language development. The rise of android smartphone in 2008 as well as other internet digital devices creates a new kinds of podcast called e-podcast. E-podcast or online podcast is simply podcast that is available in the form of apps or application based software that support interactive play. British Council as one of the British organization who specialize in cultural and education development set up an application and website contains with English listening e-podcast for educational purpose. Therefore, the writer wants to analyze the challenges in implementing British Council’s e-podcast, especially in English listening class by the students. Previous researches from similar issue are analyzed to reveal the obstacle and solution to overcome the challenges in British Council’s e-podcast implementation. The target respondents are students of semester one who already got Listening I class in Busisness English study program Politeknik Ubaya. The writer uses questionnaire for this study as a tool to reveal the challenges in British Council’s e-podcast implementation. The findings reveal that there are some challenges in implementing Bristish Council's e-podcast. The findings also reveal some solutions to the challenges that the students face in implementing the e-podcast. This study will be beneficial for the writer as well as for Business English study program as an analysis instrument whether continue to use e-podacst in teaching and learning activities or not. Further studies could be implemented in order to find other multimedia applications that can be used to foster students’ listening skills development.
