Abstract

Jamu is one of Indonesian herbal medicines which is still used today. However, the presence of Pb(II) as contaminant in jamu that exceeded the allowable limit can cause harm to human health. In this context, the development of strip test using dithizone for Pb detection in jamu has been developed using scanometry method. The strip test produced by immobilized of 5 μL dithizone 400 ppm-ascorbic acid 0.25M into 7.00 mm filter paper to produce strip test for Pb(II) ions. The optimum running condition for Hg(II) detection in jamu was at the pH 7. The strip test has response time at 15 minutes. The analytical characteristics for this strip test has a sensitivity at 1.559 ppm of Hg(II). The linearity in the range concentration of 0-14 ppm was 0.9971, with good precision and accuracy (≤ 7.30%; 80 - 110%). The strip test was not interfered by a matrix of jamu and other heavy metals (Hg(II) and Cd(II)) in 1: 1 interference ratio with % interference ≤ 5%., and only interfere in the higher ratio > 1: 10. The strip test can be used for 26 days when it stored in 2-8oC and protected from the direct light. This strip test was in agreement with ICP-AES method in determination of Pb(II) ions in jamu samples, and can be used as an alternative method for rapid detection of Pb(II) ion in jamu samples.
