Abstract

The Floating Photovoltaic (FPV) is one of PV system applications that has several advantages, such as saving land cost and hybrid connection with existing hydropower system. FPV system application would support the expansion of the solar energy sector. This work simulates studies on the possibility of FPV system implementation in the existing dam in Sigura-Gura, North Sumatera, Indonesia. The objective of the work is to estimate the capacity of the PV system that can be installed and the amount of energy output of FPV system. Simulation is done using Google Erath and PVGIS software. The total water surface area of the dam was found to be around 233,964 m2, and about 12.6 MWp capacity solar modules are possible to be installed. With this FPV system capacity, the annual energy production is about 16.32 GWh. The FPV system can be hybridized with the existing hydropower plant.
