Abstract
This research used a Tracking Power Supply (TPS) circuit designed and implemented on an Audio Power Amplifier class A aimed at increasing power efficiency with a small effect on the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the amplifier. The TPS method is a method that combines the High-Speed Voltage Buffer method which can respond to fast voltage changes with the Switching Supply method which can supply power with relatively higher efficiency. By using TPS method, majority of the current required by the Audio Power Amplifier will be controlled and supplied by the TPS circuit which is expected to increase the efficiency of the Audio Power Amplifier (APA). The Switching part of the TPS is controlled using a Hysteresis Comparator, which works based on the amount of current flowing into the circuit. By using the TPS method, the power efficiency of the APA has been improved. The results increase the efficiency of APA by 17%, from 34% to 51%. The realization of the circuit in the PCB obtained in this study using this method can supply a class A push-pull power amplifier of 20 W to a load of 8 with a THD of 0.0027% at an audio working frequency of 1 kHz.
