Abstract
The influence of heating stage parameters in RFW (rotary friction welding) of ST 41 steel is studied in this work. A Series of experiments on ST 41 steel were conducted in a lathe machine equipped with a hydraulic power pack system. Full factorial design of experiments is employed to investigate the influence of the parameters, i.e., friction pressure and friction time on the joint strength of the samples. A replication experiment is carried out to study if the factors’ interaction affects joint strength. Cross-weld tensile tests were performed using tensile specimens that ensure failure at the joint. The results indicated a significant influence of friction pressure, friction time, and their interaction on the joint strength.
