Abstract

Due to complex environment and product experience, the design of product or service incorporating human capability and limitation is a must. Related to human-machine system considering physical characteristics, Anthropometry becomes an utmost aspect. It is a product design and development methodology taking into account human body dimensions and scales. Due to various body measures of user of different cultures, gender, and geographical factors, then an understanding of human physical variability becomes critical. This study provides a comprehensive anthropometry measurement taking into account 119 Indonesian adults anthropometry by considering a study done by Drillis and Contini, and wrapped it up using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. It is how to confirm which anthropometric measures are significantly and heavily correlated with stature and weight, respectively. The result shows that limb segments were highly significantly correlated with stature, whereas girth and width segments were closely significantly correlated with weight. In other words, limb and girth are critical to stature and weight for both female and male subjects, respectively. Practically, this study will support any product design and development activities, especially in the use of rapid availability of anthropometric data.
