Abstract
Although Indonesia has ratified some important international instruments of human rights of women_ such as Act No 68 of 1958 on the Convention on Women Political Rights, Act No 7 of 1984 on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and Act No 39 of 1999 on Human Rights, women in Indonesia still are subject of discrimination. Media, as an agent of change as well as agent of soda/ education, is needed by society to uphold human rights. But media often commits to discriminatory practices. In covering women, media tends to exploit women by positioning them as victims. 1111s paper suggests that media should become the partner of all related components to establish a new society which holds and strengthens human rights, and that the quality of media people should be improved.
