Abstract
This paper presents filtering method for gradient input signal in order to enhance control performance under measurement noise. The system being studied is an evaporation control system. Two types of filtering method were investigated (i.e averaging of 4 consecutive data and using the following formula: yf(t)=(1+a).y(t)-a.yf(t-1). The benefit of this method is quantified in terms of the total operating cost reduction compared to nonfiltered gradient control. It was found that filtering gradient input signal can successfully reduce the total operating cost.
