Abstract

Object: To evaluate the physical stability of pediatric extemporaneous suspensions under varying factors which are temperature and light conditions. Methods: Four bottles of the cough and common cold extemporaneous suspensions were made and stored under four different conditions of temperature, and sunlight.Physical characteristics: appearance, colour, odour, precipitation, and sedimentation were evaluated daily Results: Change in colour were observed in all suspensions but they appeared in different time. Particle sedimentation and insoluble precipitates were sen at the bottom of the bottle in all suspensions. No notable changes in odour were observed in all of the suspensions under various condition. Conclusions: Temperature and sunlight possibly affect the physical stability of the extemporaneous suspensions as seen in changes in colour, increased sedimentation volume, and presipitation.
