Abstract

Abstract: Human rights education for young children is important to create non-violent and tolerance character. Story-telling could be an alternative method of human rights values to young children from 6-7 who are starting their first grade in elemtary school. In this period of age, students usually start to learn about values of good and bad or moral values. Therefore, this study will describe about the effectiveness of story-telling method by using Indonesian fables to teach human rights values. There will be several phases elaborate in this study. First, this article used content analysis to explore human rights values from Indonesian fables. Then, this article will show the effectiveness of using story telling method to introduce and teach human rights values. There are several findings from this study. There are several Indonesian fables which contain human rights values. Method of storytelling using Indonesian fables is used by some teachers and parents to teach non-violence, respect, tolerances and cooperation values. Children of 6-7 years old involved in this study showed that they know and understand these values. It is shown from the children’s behavior and their process of decision making.
