Abstract
Humans as social beings cannot be separated from the process of interaction with other individuals in order to meet human needs in daily life. Each individual should have high social competence, especially for overseas students so that they can play an effective role in the overseas area. Based on the researcher's initial survey of six overseas students, it was found that 83.33% of overseas students had low social competence. This study aims to determine the positive relationship between parenting and social competence among overseas students. This study uses a survey method with an attitude scale to collect data online using google form. Sampling was carried out using the incidental sampling technique and it was found that there were 170 overseas students from several regions in Indonesia with an age range of 18-25 years, currently still in overseas areas, living in overseas areas for at least 1 year, and still having complete parents. Data obtained using the Social Skills Rating System to measure social competence and the Multidimensional Assessment of Parenting Scale to measure positive parenting. Data analysis was performed using SPSS for Windows version 25. The results of the hypothesis test showed the value of r = 0.297 with p = 0.001 (p < 0.05) so that there was a positive correlation between positive parenting and the social competence of overseas students. Manusia sebagai makhluk sosial tidak lepas dari proses interaksi dengan individu lain guna memenuhi kebutuhan manusia dalam keseharian. Setiap individu sebaiknya memiliki kompetensi sosial yang tinggi, terutama pada mahasiswa rantau agar dapat berperan efektif di daerah rantau. Berdasarkan survei awal peneliti pada enam mahasiswa rantau, didapatkan bahwa 83,33% mahasiswa rantau memiliki kompetensi sosial yang rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan positive parenting dengan kompetensi sosial pada mahasiswa rantau. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dengan 2 instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data secara daring menggunakan google form. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan menggunakan teknik incidental sampling dan didapatkan partisipan berjumlah 170 mahasiswa rantau dari beberapa daerah di Indonesia dengan rentang usia 18-25 tahun, saat ini masih berada di daerah rantau, berada di daerah rantau minimal 1 tahun, dan masih memiliki orangtua lengkap. Data diperoleh menggunakan Social Skills Rating System untuk mengukur kompetensi sosial dan Multidimensional Assessment of Parenting Scale untuk mengukur positive parenting. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan SPSS for Windows versi 25. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan nilai r = 0.297 dengan p= 0.001 (p < 0.05) sehingga terdapat korelasi positif antara positive parenting dengan kompetensi sosial mahasiswa rantau
