Abstract

The advance of technology is now more sophisticated and creates so many new innovations in doing many things which involves a romantic relationship. Instagram is a social networking site that is often used by early adulthood. In a romantic relationship by using Instagram, not all can run well, there is a situation that causes a romantic jealousy. Romantic jealousy is related to self-esteem, therefore when self-esteem is low, the romantic jealousy tends to be high. To see the relationship between self-esteem and romantic jealousy in the early adulthood of Instagram users, there are two measurement tools used, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and a measurement tool Multidimensional Jealousy Scale (MJS) which was compiled by Pfeiffer & Wong. The participant in this research is 380 participants of early adulthood around 18-25 years old that are in a romantic relationship, active Instagram users, and spread all around Indonesia. Based on the result of the test, it is known that self-esteem and romantic jealousy have a negative correlation, with significant 0.000 and the value of pearson correlation -.277, which shows that there is a two way relationship, which means if the self-esteem is down, so the romantic jealousy is getting up.
