Abstract

Prediabetes is a condition characterized by blood sugar levels that are not yet included in the Diabetes Mellitus (DM) category but are too high to be considered normal. Conditions that include prediabetes are Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG) with blood glucose levels after fasting for around 8-10 hours of 100-125 mg/dl (5.6-6.9 mmol/L) and Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) with Blood sugar levels were 140-199 mg/dl (7.8-11 mmol/L) two hours after being given a load of 75 grams of glucose. The diagnosis of prediabetes can also be made based on the results of an HbA1c examination which shows a figure of 5.7-6.4%. Intervention for prediabetic subjects focuses on maintaining a diet high in fiber and low in fat, physical activity of 75-150 minutes per week, weight loss of 5-7%, stopping smoking and alcohol consumption. The aim of this literature review is to review the current evidence regarding intervention trials aimed at reducing the incidence of Diabetes Mellitus in prediabetic subjects. A literature review shows that lifestyle interventions are effective in preventing and reducing the incidence of DM
