Abstract

Students with dual roles as athletes and coaches face significant challenges in balancing academic demands, sports activities, and career development. This study aims to analyze time management strategies, dual role dynamics, and career competitiveness among Surabaya University students who serve as student-athletes and coaches at Cahaya Lestari Surabaya (CLS). The research uses a qualitative phenomenological approach with data triangulation through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Participants were selected using purposive sampling with the criteria of being active students with at least ten years of experience as athletes and one year as coaches at CLS. The results of the study indicate that time management plays a crucial role in maintaining academic and non-academic balance. Although dual roles pose challenges in the form of fatigue, accumulation of tasks, and irregular lifestyles, these experiences simultaneously shape discipline, responsibility, and the ability to set priorities. Additionally, the experience as athletes and coaches contributes to increased career competitiveness through the strengthening of non-technical competencies recognized by graduate employers. This study emphasizes the importance of support from educational institutions, sports clubs, and the industry in creating an integrated development system between education, sports, and professional careers
