Abstract

An auditable Aspen HYSYS workflow was developed to screen isothermal plug-flow reactor length for cumene synthesis at a benzene-to-propene molar ratio of 1.2 and to test the robustness of the resulting length decision. An apparent-rate model was compared with a reversible Langmuir–Hinshelwood–Hougen–Watson (LHHW) formulation, whereas Peng–Robinson and Soave–Redlich–Kwong were assessed as property-method alternatives. The apparent-rate formulation supported a shorter candidate relative to its reference case, whereas the Han–LHHW model-form test yielded no passing length within the investigated range. Reactor-length inference was, therefore, strongly kinetic-model dependent, and the thermal and hydraulic results remain preliminary screening quantities rather than validated design predictions.
